Resurrection Sunday: He Is Risen!

He is risen!
If you’ve spent any time in a church during this season, you know the response: He is risen indeed!
It’s more than just a tradition. It’s more than a polite greeting we exchange before we head to a big family lunch. Those four words are the absolute bedrock of everything we believe at Green River Alliance Church. Without those words, we’re just a social club with some nice stories and a bit of history. But because those words are true, everything has changed.
I woke up this morning thinking about the sheer weight of this day. For those of us here in Green River, it’s a day of celebration, but I want to take a second to look back at that very first Easter morning. It didn’t start with a celebration. It started with confusion, grief, and a walk to a graveyard.
The Question That Changed History
In the Gospel of Luke, we find a group of women heading to the tomb. They weren't expecting a miracle; they were bringing spices to finish a burial. They were coming to honor a dead friend.
Then, they met two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning. The message they received is the reason we are gathering today:
“Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen.” , Luke 24:5–6 (ESV)
I love that question. "Why do you seek the living among the dead?"
It’s a bit of a challenge, isn't it? It’s the ultimate "I told you so," but delivered with divine love. Jesus had already told them what would happen. He had predicted His death and His resurrection multiple times. But in the fog of grief, they forgot. They were looking for a body, but they found an empty space and a promise kept.

Why the Resurrection Matters Right Now
You might be reading this and thinking, "Okay, Kevin, I get it. A guy rose from the dead 2,000 years ago. That’s a great miracle. But what does that have to do with my life in 2026? What does it have to do with my job, my family, or the stress I’m feeling?"
Everything. It has everything to do with it.
If you are looking for a church in green river wy, you’re likely looking for something real. You’re looking for hope that doesn't melt away when the bills pile up or when a relationship hits the rocks. The resurrection is that hope.
Here are three ways the empty tomb changes your life today:
1. It Changes Your Past
We all have things in our rearview mirror we aren't proud of. Regrets. Mistakes. Moments we wish we could scrub from the record. The resurrection is the "receipt" that Jesus' payment for our sins was accepted. When He died, He took our mess. When He rose, He proved that our debt was paid in full. Your past no longer defines you; His victory does. If you want to dive deeper into what we believe about this, you can check out our beliefs here.
2. It Changes Your Present
The same power that raised Jesus from the grave is available to you right now. That sounds like "preacher-talk," but I mean it literally. We don’t have to live in our own strength. We have access to the Holy Spirit. It means that when you’re at the end of your rope, there is a source of peace and strength that isn't dependent on your circumstances. It means we can live with purpose, knowing we are part of a bigger story.
3. It Changes Your Future
Death is the great "unknown" that scares almost everyone. It’s the final wall. But Jesus walked right through that wall and came back to tell us there’s more on the other side. Because He lives, we will live also. That takes the "sting" out of the grave. It gives us a perspective that stretches far beyond our 70 or 80 years on this earth.
Real Community in Green River
At Green River Alliance Church, we aren't interested in just putting on a show. We are interested in Real Community. We are a group of people, sinners, skeptics, and believers alike, who are trying to figure out how to follow this risen King together.
I know that walking into a church can be intimidating, especially on a big day like Easter. You might wonder if you’ll fit in or if you’ll know when to stand up or sit down. Let me take the pressure off: just come as you are.
We are part of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, which means we are part of a global movement focused on taking the message of Jesus to the ends of the earth. But locally, we are your neighbors. We are the people you see at the grocery store and the park. We want to be a place where you can find Real Truth and Real Hope.
Join Us This Morning
If you’re reading this on Easter morning and you don’t have a place to go, please know that there is a seat saved for you here.
Our sunday service green river wy starts at 10:45 AM.
We’re going to sing some songs, we’re going to open the Bible, and we’re going to celebrate the fact that the grave is empty. Whether you’ve been a Christian your whole life or you haven’t stepped foot in a church in decades, you are welcome.
If you want to learn more about what to expect or catch up on other things happening in our church family, feel free to learn about our church here.
A Final Thought Before We Celebrate
Maybe you feel like you’re still in "Saturday." Maybe it feels like the silence is too loud and the uncertainty is too heavy. If that’s you, let Easter be the reminder that God is never done. The disciples thought it was over on Friday. They sat in silence on Saturday. But Sunday was coming.
Sunday is here.
The grave is empty. Death is defeated. Jesus is alive!
This changes everything: your past, your present, and your future.
I can’t wait to celebrate with you. If you can't make it today but want to connect later, or if you're interested in things like water baptism as a next step in your faith journey, please reach out. We are here for you.
See you at 10:45 AM!
Pastor Kevin
